HOW TO USE THE MAP
The map has been designed to use with icons directing you to areas rather than individual businesses . Look at the key on the bottom left and then find matching icons in areas where you can find what you are looking for.
So many activities can be enjoyed on the beach - apart from relaxing, sunbathing and swimming there are more energetic things to do! An outdoor gym, children’s playground and the start of the Fitness Trail along the beach (look out for the wooden fitness equipment) can be found at Eastoke Corner. A skateboard park, basketball hoop and golf can be enjoyed in the Beachlands area and kite flying, walking, running, cycling, beach fishing all along the Beach.

You might be forgiven for thinking that Hayling, being an island, just consists of water-borne events throughout the Summer. Indeed, the Island is very proud to host the Virgin Kitesurfing Armada Festival and the Round Island Kayak Event, both in June, plus the National Watersports Festival in September. There is so much more on offer throughout the whole of the Summer season, from music festivals at Eastoke Plaza to plays at the Station Theatre, one day courses at the Island library, varied events at the Community Centre and then there is the funfair, something for everyone.

Ferry to Portsmouth
Live links are for Information and Timetables of the services.
Everyone will love a ride on the Hayling Seaside Railway along the seafront from Beachlands or Eastoke Corner - to take in the beautiful views across the sea to the Isle of Wight. Train runs weekends and Wednesdays throughout the year and everyday in school holidays. Join it at Eastoke Corner for trip to the weekly car boot on a Wednesday morning.
If you like watching live bands, you're in luck! Check out the listings for the public houses on Hayling - many have bands on at the weekends with a wide variety of different types of music. During the week there are quiz nights and open mic/jam evenings. To find out about What's On whilst you are here on Hayling Island, visit www.hayling.co.uk/events or the Hayling Island page on Facebook. Also check out www.playingontheplaza.co.uk for outdoor entertainment.
PROJECTS
Haylings Best Coastal Communities Group were awarded £10,000 to spend on Hayling’s Seafront . Basically we had to come up with an idea which would increase the south seafront economy. After much headscratching, thinking, sleepless nights etc. we decided that we should just simply tell everyone where everything is.
Signage and maps were our aim. Brown road signs were updated to cover areas not mentioned before. Maps were designed and changed and changed again but the end result is a good, easy to read map which doesn’t target any particular business by name but shows you where you can eat, drink, shop and play in South Hayling Island.
The large A1 maps (shown on the Home page) in every seafront car park do exactly that. They show you where you are and where everything is.
Alongside this a paper version has been produced which is available free in local outlets. This doesn’t only have a map but lots of useful information too. 2,000 were given out in the first month!
The project followed on with a web site which as you can see includes transport links for the Seafront Railway, Ferry and Buses.
Next will be stickers relating to the icons on the map for businesses to display and QR codes to the web site on the car park maps.
And to follow ….. whatever funds allow!

Shops, restaurants, cafes and various forms of entertainment are generally centrerd around West Beach and Eastoke Corner with more shops and cafes in the north villages of Mengham and West Town a little to the north. A 2ft narrow guage railway travels a mile along the Seafront from it's base at eastoke Corner to a small Funfair at West Beach.
The Haylings Best Coastal Community team are committed to connecting residents and visitors with the varied activities and businesses that the Island offers.
Hayling Island is a small 'T' shaped island in Hampshire four miles long and four miles wide. Easily accessed by a road bridge or by private boat, it is situated between Portsmouth and Chichester. The island has a lot to offer and is widely regarded as the birth place and home of windsurfing. The Island boasts two sailing clubs, two marinas and annually hosts The National Watersports Festival and Kitesurfing Armada.
The hugely popular Seafront is almost unique in that parking and access is allowed along almost all of the four mile stretch of the beach on the south coast. The Seafront is a favourite of families, dog walkers, horse riders and anyone generally wanting to enjoy some lovely clear air! The Island is protected by the Isle of Wight to the south and has it's own microclimate.
